With nearly 1.5 lakh party hoppers expected to throng Lonavla and Khandala this New Year's eve, the police have put up heavy bandobast


Expecting over 1.5 lakh party-goers to camp at Lonavla and Khandala for New Year's eve, Pune rural police don't want to take any chances, especially after last year's rave sparty bust.

According to the police, combing operations will aslo start in the other hot destinations Khadakwasla, old and new Pune-Mumbai Expressway from today.

Areas in and around the city like Vadgaon Dhyari, Mohamadwadi, parts of Kondhwa and Hadapsar, Fursungi, are expected tou00a0 draw huge crowds. The Pune rural police plan to scan all dhabas and lodges along the highways.

No drink driving
SP Pratap Dighavkar said, "Nakabandi will be put up at all major locations which fallu00a0 under the jurisdiction of rural police. There will be stricter action against those found driving under the influence of alcohol. We have six breathalysers and have formed quick response teams. A riot control team will also be added to the fleet."

Realising the need for parking lots in Lonavla, the rural police have made arrangements for 15 open parking places to avoid congestion on the night of December 31.

Lonavla city police have 80 police personnel and an additional 70 staff will be deployed to maintain law and order during New Year.
