The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a retired rural police inspector last night, after he was accused of having property beyond his known sources of income.

Bhausaheb Andhalkar, who is also a suspect in the RTI activist Satish Shetty murder case, was arrested a few hours after the Shivajinagar sessions court gave the CBI permission to conduct a polygraph test on him.

ACB officials said that Andhalkar’s assets, not accounted for, are around Rs 1.57 crore.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACB) Hemant Bhatt said that they had received an anonymous complaint last year about Andhalkar’s disproportionate assets and began investigating.

“During the investigation, we sent several letters to Andhalkar seeking his cooperation. He did not cooperate, prompting us to take action against him today,” Bhatt said.

Bhatt added that during the past year, they visited Andhalkar’s home at Barshi in Solapur district and found that he had amassed disproportionate assets.

An ACB official said that Andhalkar’s assets include several vehicles, stone crushers, hotels, lodges, houses and land in the city, as well as in Solapur district. Superintendent of Police (ACB), Sarang Awad, said that Andhalkar will be produced in court today. u00a0
