It took the police two hours to control a mob that was protesting the death of a 16-year-old boy, who was killed by a Blueline bus in the Shastri Park area of northeast Delhi on Monday.

The accident took place at around 7.15 am, when the victim, Aditya Jain, a student of Class IX, came under the front wheel of the Blueline bus plying on Route No 213A.

The boy's death led to a violent reaction by local residents, who blocked the road for almost two hours and pelted stones damaging more than a dozen busses crossing the area. The buses that were parked along the road were also damaged.

According to the police, the incident took place when Aditya, a resident of New Usmanpur in northeast Delhi, was trying to board the bus to reach his school, Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya at Mori gate. The victim's father, an auto driver, was informed by the locals about the incident.

Eyewitnesses, in their statements to the police, said the driver of the bus accelerated suddenly, after which Aditya slipped under the wheels of the vehicle. The driver managed to escape from the spot but the conductor, who was trying to run away, was caught by other students and local residents.

Following the incident, local residents and students assembled near the accident spot and blocked traffic. "The protestors assembled and pelted stones at buses. The mob refused to lift the body of the boy until cops arrived and arrested the accused. The mob went on a rampage till the police and additional forces arrived at the spot.

We have impounded the Blueline bus and will arrest its driver soon. The bus conductor was beaten up by the mod, though the accident wasn't his fault," said a police official.
