On seeing a bunch of men pass lewd remarks at some girls, a teacher (name withheld on request) working in a private school could not keep quiet. When she intervened, she was roughed up by one of them.

But not only did she slap him back, she also went to the police station to lodge a complaint. When she went there, the police official instead asked her why she retaliated. She went to the police station at 8 pm and came out only at 1 am.

This incident took place last night at Krishnanagar colony in Akurdi. According to the teacher, she noticed the men passing lewd remarks at some girls.

The teacher, who was present there, confronted them. Angered, one man held her by the neck and hit her on the face. Not to take this lying down, she retaliated with a slap.

According to the teacher, when she went to Dehu Road police station, the officer in-charge demanded from her the reason for retaliation.

Horrified by this treatment she said, "I am shocked at how an officer could ask me this question. Was I supposed to tolerate their assault? I noticed that two on the red motorbike were passing lewd remarks at the girls passing from the bridge. When I reminded him that he was troubling the girls he threatened me."

She then said, "The official was unwilling to file an FIR because according to him it was also the girls' fault. He pressurised me to not file the complaint."

She said, "I have seen Rahul Singh (23) and his friends always trouble school-going girls in this area. As a teacher, I felt I should raise my voice against it. The officer asked me to get the girls to the police station so that they could testify against the men. But if they can give me a hard time like this, why should I even call the girls?"

She also alleged that the police did not write the name of the other man present along with Rahul Singh. She said the police asked her to go to Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital alone at night for medical examination of her injuries.

PI Nitin Gokave of Dehu Road police station said: "This incident took place on Wednesday night. According to the complainant Singh slapped her when she approached him to question what he was doing there and she retaliated"

The police finally filed an FIR after much deliberation and slapped charges of IPC 323 against Rahul Singh. When asked why the police official demanded an explanation from her, he said, "This is our usual procedure."
