Arrested for his suspected links with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence, Sepoy Brijeshkumar Vikram Singh (26) from the Southern Command Headquarters allegedly had four bank accounts in which he parked large amounts of money that can not be accounted for from his known sources of income.

Singh was the alleged link in the army of suspected Pakistan agent Vishambar Agarwal, who was arrested last week. Singh allegedly passed on sensitive information about the Southern Command to Agarwal.

Inspector Satish Govekar of the Anti-Organised Crime Cell (North Region) last afternoon produced Singh before Judicial Magistrate First Class R L Wankhade. The court remanded Singh in police custody till February 21.

Singh joined the Indian Army in 2006 and for the first fours years was posted in sensitive border areas such as Leh. Singh was posted to the Signal Regiment in the city last year. Assistant Public Prosecutor Shilpa Mahatekar requested the court for 14 days' police custody for Singh, arguing that prima facie it had been established that he was in touch with some elements in Pakistan from the ISI.

"Singh was posted at many sensitive places and it is necessary to find out whether he has earlier passed on secret information to the ISI," Mahatekar said. "It has also been established that he and Agarwal together were in touch with some people in Pakistan. The police suspect the involvement of other army personnel also in this espionage case."
