Thane crime: A court in Maharashtra has sentenced a 52-year-old man from Palghar district to life imprisonment for killing his 75-year-old paternal uncle over a property dispute seven years ago, reported the PTI.

In her order on Wednesday, Sessions Judge Rachna R Tehra also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Ramdas Shankar Budhar of Jawhar taluka after convicting him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, the report said.
Additional Public Prosecutor Sandhya H Mhatre told the court that Ramdas and his father's brother Ambu Navsu Budhar had a running feud over the division of their ancestral property.
Ramdas often fought with his uncle claiming that he was given non-fertile land, the court was told. On the morning of March 5, 2016, Ramdas killed his uncle, who was sleeping on his farm, with an axe.
APP Mhatre said 12 prosecution witnesses were examined to prove the crime and the court relied on the circumstantial evidence before it while convicting and sentencing Ramdas.

Passengers assault driver, flee with his taxi, case registered
Meanwhile, police has launched a hunt for six persons who allegedly booked a cab but fled with the vehicle after assaulting and robbing the driver, an official said on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday when the complainant, who is associated with an app-based taxi service, got a booking from Badlapur to Thane. Six passengers boarded the car, said driver Abdul Sayyed Ren (38) in his complaint.
As the vehicle reached an isolated stretch near the Ulhas river, the six allegedly attacked the driver, snatched his mobile and cash and fled with the car. The police put the total robbery amount, including the value of the car, at Rs 8.11 lakh.

The Badlapur West police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), but no arrest has been made yet, the official added.
In another incident, Navi Mumbai police claimed to have detected 14 cases of vehicle thefts with the arrest of three persons.
After receiving many complaints about theft of tempos within the limits of Kalamboli police station, cops worked on CCTV footage and other inputs and arrested one Anwar Rasulkhan Pathan (39) from Panvel.
Pathan's questioning led the police to Mannan Abdul Shiekh (36) from Jalna district and Firoz Mukkaram Sheikh (49), alias Mulla of Beed, said a release from the crime unit II of the Navi Mumbai police on Friday.
With the arrest of the three, the police detected 14 vehicle thefts committed in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Ahmednagar, Parbhani, Beed, Aurangabad, and Jalna, it said.
The police have also recovered 10 Ape tempos, one motorcycle and one tempo engine, the release said.
