Mumbai: Taxi and auto union calls off strike

Around 48,000 taxi drivers and about two lakh autorickshaw drivers in Mumbai had decided to go on a strike from tomorrow, September 15, seeking a hike in fares, the auto and taxi drivers’ union had said.

In a recent development, the strike of autos and taxis in Mumbai have called off the strike following a meeting with the state industries minister, Uday Samant. Confirming the development, A L Quadros, general secretary of Mumbai Taximen’s Union, told mid-day.com, "We have called off the strike for now." 


Around 48,000 taxi drivers and about two lakh autorickshaw drivers in Mumbai had decided to go on a strike from tomorrow, September 15, seeking a hike in fares, the auto and taxi drivers’ union had said.

Quadros added, "A meeting with the state industries minister, Uday Samant was held at the Mantralaya on Tuesday and we have been told that a decision on our demands would be taken in the next 10 days. Since the consideration of our demands is being made we have decided not to go on a strike."
