Aaditya Thackeray meets the family members of Sangeeta Kharat
The family of Sangeeta Kharat, 45, a Worli resident who was crushed to death after a big tree fell on her at BDD chawl, received Rs 4 lakh from the government after Yuva Sena Chief Aaditya Thackeray declared the compensation. After mid-day highlighted the incident on May 19, Thackeray met the Kharat family and assured them of all possible help.

Kharat was a resident of Worli number 71 BDD Chawl and worked as a house help. She was living with her 17-year-old son Abhishek, while her other son stays in their native village with her husband. The Worli police have registered an accidental death report in the matter and are investigating the case.

According to the police, a 50-year-old Banyan tree fell on Kharat while she was returning home from work the day Cyclone Tauktae hit the state. Locals rushed to the spot and managed to move the tree only after struggling for 20-30 minutes. Locals and the police rushed Kharat to KEM hospital where she was put on ventilator but later died.
Worli resident and social worker Vivek Badekar had written to the state government seeking financial aid for her family. Vivek Badekar told mid-day, “Thank you for highlighting the incident as the woman’s family got R4 lakh from the government. On Thursday, Aaditya Thackeray met Kharat’s son, Abhishek. Thackeray also promised to extend any other help needed by the family.”
Kharat’s brother Jitendra Owhal said, “We thank mid-day for highlighting the incident. The help our family received will be used for Abhishek’s education so that he has a bright future.”
