The fire took place at 3.30 am on Saturday morning

Many gallas in an area spanning 5,000-square metres in Baiganwadi, Govandi, were gutted in a fire which broke out on Friday night. The reason for the fire is still unknown.

According to the call received by the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the blaze started around 3.30 am at Adarsh Nagar, Road Number 13. The MFB declared it level one and four small lines and motor pumps were used to douse the fire.

The fire spread to 15 gallas, as well as homes on the ground and first floor of a few chawl structures. It eventually spread out to autorickshaws parked by the roadside. It affected electric wiring and installations, household articles, clothes, asbestos cement sheets, plastic sheets, LPG cylinders, wooden planks, wooden furniture, wooden hanger, and broom-making material. The fire was extinguished at 9 am. No one was injured in the incident, said officials.
