Social media posts by enthusiastic voters who exercised their franchise for the first time on Monday

Mumbaikars of all hues took to social media to express their satisfaction after selecting the candidates of their choice. Some, however, also expressed discontent as they had to wait for a long time in the queue before they could exercise their franchise.

Amar Khamkar, a first-time voter, posted a picture on X, formerly Twitter, of himself at a polling station selfie stand. It was captioned: “And voted for first time. #voting #mumbai #votefornation”. Another first-time voter whose X handle is @mustbeknowing posted a picture of her inked finger stating, “Happy Voting Day, mumbai oomfs!! (Heart emoticon) (First time for me!!) “.

Saloni Mittal, whose X handle is @whysaloni, posted, “Voted for first time ever (heart emoticon). Go get inked - Mumbaikar vote kar. #Mumbi #LokSabhaElections2024 #Voting #ElectionDay (sic)”

Not all voters, however, had the time of their lives on Monday. An X handle @Focus_mumbai posted, “First time in my life, waited for 2 hrs for voting. Heavy voting in Magathane. Percentage is poor reflection. RC should stop it. (sic)” Social media user Deepa Kadam posted in Marathi, “I had been waiting at booth number 18 in Pratiksha Nagar from 9.30 am. I got to vote at 1.53 pm. Never have I had to wait for so long to vote before.”  The X handle of the Election Commission of India was tagged in the post.

One Varun, whose X handle is @Vrunss, posted, “Pathetic voting conditions in ABVM SJPA school inside Goregaon Assembly constituency in Mumbai West. Extremely hot and inhumane conditions outside polling booths in a closely packed hall without ventilation. @ECISVEEP do something about it. #Elections #Voting”

Nish Navalkar posted, “Disallowed phones at polling stations is just public harassment. Most of the people didn’t have idea about it so where do they keep their phones at last minute? EC has promoted downloading E-Voting slips, what happened? the police staff found it tough to handle too (sic)”
