Police have registered an FIR against four persons for allegedly attempting to kill a 25-year-old man after a dispute in Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra, an official said on Sunday, reported news agency PTI.

The victim, who worked at a dairy products company in Turbhe area, was going to his residence on Friday night when the accused met him, reported PTI.

One of the accused demanded Rs 100 from the victim for food which he refused to give, the official from Turbhe police station said.

The person got annoyed and he and three others allegedly attacked the man with a huge stone and an iron rod, he said.

The victim was severely injured and was rushed to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment, the police said, reported PTI.

Based on a complaint by the victim, the police on Saturday registered a case against four persons under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (common intention) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), the official said, reported PTI.

In another case, the Navi Mumbai police claimed on Saturday that they had detected five break-ins with the arrest of a history-sheeter.

The arrest of Shafique Abdul Sheikh, Topi, came after police launched a probe following a burglary at a house under the jurisdiction of Rabale police.

Acting on several inputs, Sheikh, who has a criminal past, was taken into custody on May 28, he said, reported PTI.

During questioning, Sheikh confessed to committing five break-ins in the locality. Gold jewellery worth about Rs 4 lakh has been recovered from him, said senior inspector Sanjeev Dhumal of Rabale police station, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai police have arrested two persons on the charge of dacoity after a woman was robbed of nearly Rs 28 lakh on the promising of gold at "cheap" rate, an official said on Friday, reported PTI.

In her complaint, the 36-year-old Nerul resident said one of the arrested persons had got in touch with her claiming he could get her half a kilo of gold for Rs 27.81 lakh, less than the market price, reported PTI.

The man took the complainant to Sanpada station in a car for the deal on May 18 but some people arrived there, threatened the woman and snatched her bag containing the money, reported PTI.

The man and another person who had accompanied them in the car fled the scene, she alleged.

Working on various leads, the police arrested Thane residents Rakesh Shivaji Shingte (39), who was in touch with the woman, and Roopesh Subash Sapkale (42). Efforts are on to nab the others, he added.
