The police have registered an accidental death case and found that the deceased was depressed after his son’s death three months ago and was mentally unstable for the last two years.
Informed daughter
The deceased, identified as Ashok Dandubite, a resident of Vashi, is a government official. “Before committing suicide he called his daughter and informed her of his decision. His daughter asked him to wait as she had left to reach the spot. But he did not listen to her. When she reached the bridge, she couldn’t find him and registered a missing person’s complaint in Vashi police station at around 8pm,” said a senior Vashi police official.
Body found
A fisherman found his dead body around the Vashi creek the next morning. He informed the police, who took him to a civic hospital, where doctors declared him dead due to drowning.
“We have registered an accidental death case and found that the deceased was under depression as three months ago he lost his son in an accident,” said Arun Landge, senior police inspector, Vashi police station.
While interrogating his family, the cops also found that the deceased was mentally unstable.
“We interviewed the family members and found that he was mentally unstable from the last two years. He had earlier tried jumping from the terrace of their building but was saved by neighbours and family members,” said a senior police officer.
He added, “The family is going through a traumatic time and once they are fine, we will ask them about the specific reason behind his suicide.”
