With a minimum temperature of 13.8° C, Sunday morning has been the coldest day this winter season so far in Mumbai. Citizens can continue to enjoy this nip in the air as the same weather is expected to continue for sometime with slight changes.
From being constant at 17°Celsius for a few days, the temperature in the city and suburbs first dropped to 15.2°Celsius on December 21. As the cold weather continued, the temperature dropped further to 14°Celsius on January 2. On Sunday morning, however, the minimum temperature recorded became the lowest of this season for the city.
The temperature is expected to see a slight rise now, but the cold weather will continue for almost the entire week. For a coastal city, a chilly winter is not a regular phenomenon. However, the change in the usual weather conditions this season has given Mumbaikars reason to bring out those sweaters and scarves.
Krishnanand Hosalikar, deputy director, Indian Meteorological Department, said, "After January 2, this is the lowest temperature that was recorded for Mumbai this winter season. Winds blowing from the north toward the south are bringing cold weather along. This will continue for another few days, even though there will be a slight increase in temperature."
