Police have been trying to nab the accused since October last year. The man has allegedly molested more than a dozen girls in western suburbs — Santacruz, Bandra, D N Nagar, Amboli, Andheri etc.
The molester targets girls between the age of 10 to 15 years in deserted areas of the western suburbs
The suspect is believed to be in his early 30s, and targets girls between the age of 10 to 15 years in the deserted lanes and shantytowns. He has a unique identification mark — one of his eyes is damaged. It is completely white, whether it’s artificial or not is not known.
In the incident, which occurred on Sunday, the man caught hold of the girl in a deserted area and tried molesting her.
However, the child wrested free of his grip and escaped. The girl narrated the incident to her family, who then filed a complaint at the DN Nagar police station. It was then transferred to the Amboli police, since the incident occurred in their jurisdiction.
However, CCTV cameras in the area managed to catch the accused. “Based on the CCTV grabs, cops roped in a sketch artist. We now have a clearer image of the accused. With its help, we hope he will be behind bars very soon,” an officer from Amboli police station said.
Identifying the man
The last incident was reported in the last week of January, in which the accused had molested a girl at knifepoint in the evening.
“As we began investigations, we found that on Ceaser Road, Amboli, the accused had passed by a restaurant. CCTV cameras outside the eatery captured the accused and we showed the footage to the girls, who identified him immediately. The footage is blurred, so we have roped in a sketch artist to get a clearer image,” informed S A Khanvilkar, inspector at Amboli police station. He added, “The accused had a prominent identification mark based on which we found out that he is a repeat offender, and that there are similar cases registered against him in our police station as well as other areas.”
Based on the girls’ descriptions and the footage, police have gotten a sketch prepared.
“The crime spots are hardly 15 minutes away from each other,” said another officer.
The Amboli police have made three teams who patrol during the time the offences were committed.

The beginning

A senior police officer from Santacruz police station said, “We have rounded up several drug addicts and habitual criminals but the accused was not identified. In several cases, we have come to know that families have come forward to complain but the FIR was not taken.”
“The accused is still roaming free after so many reports about him; he is a psycho targeting minor girls. He has molested girls in Bandra, Kherwadi, Santacruz, Vakola, Oshiwara, Versova, Goregaon, D N Nagar, Amboli,” said a senior IPS officer.
