A drug addict loitering around the vicinity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus allegedly attacked a 57-year-old French tourist yesterday evening. According to the Azad Maidan police, Caroline Claudine had come to the city on December 18.

“The incident took place while she was shopping near New Excelsior Cinema. The drug addict allegedly punched her and started expressing his displeasure over people entering the city from other countries,” said Narendra Singh, senior police inspector of Azad Maidan police station.

The locals overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police. He was identified as Saiful Badokochi (25), a native of Bengal. “We have arrested him and have sent him for a medical examination to check if he was under the influence of drugs, as he had arrived in the city only on Thursday. The woman has been admitted to St George Hospital,” said Singh.

Deja vu
In another recent incident reported by MiD DAY on January 28, a 24-year-old German national was sexually harassed at Bandra Terminus on January 25. The woman, a graphic designer by profession, was waiting for her train to Ajmer, in the ladies’ retiring room on the first floor of the station. After she fell asleep, Shaukat Ali, a resident of the nearby area, allegedly touched her inappropriately. He was arrested by GRP officials after the woman screamed for help, and was handed over to Nirmal Nagar police officials subsequently.
