A special team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 16 lakh tablets containing psychotropic substances, valued at approximate Rs 57 lakh, in Mira Road. The raid was conducted after information was received that the substances, in tablet form, were being exported by a group based at Mira Road.
According to a report in India Today, raids were held at Mira Road premises of Allied Air Express and two other premises. The report added that orders for the drugs were received from United States and United Kingdom at three call centres based in different parts of the country. This information was then passed on to the company, which received the content from suppliers at Sangli, Ludhiana and Delhi.
"The tablets were then packed by the company in courier covers and sent to Delhi from where they were sent abroad by speed post as medical samples,” an official informed India Today.
As per the report, eight people have been held thus far.
