Two motorcycle-borne goons fired three rounds of bullets on a rice merchant and looted Rs 30 lakh cash in Virar on Sunday night at around 9:55 pm. According to police sources, the incident occurred near Chandan Rice Market.

A police source informed, “Rice merchant Ashok Ramanlal Shah (45) who runs Chandan Rice Market was preparing to go home from the shop, along his servant Rajesh (25). He was keeping all necessary documents and cash in his Activa Bike in front of his shop. Suddenly, two unidentified persons came on a Pulsar bike, fired at Shah and took away the cash.
The source further added that three rounds were fired, out of which one bullet hit Shah in the chest. He was immediately rushed to Sanjivani Hospital by the locals, and his servant. Shah’s condition is said to be critical, and he has been admitted in the ICU.
A police official from Virar police station said, “On the complaint of the servant, who is the key eyewitness in the case, we have registered a case under section 307 of IPC and the Arms Act against two unknown persons. Further investigation is on.”
