Shivaji Yashwant Shinde, 75, from Vikhroli lost his only son Arun Shinde, 44 after the latter committed suicide in his house by hanging from the ceiling. He took the extreme step due to family brawl over a property dispute.
Gauri Arun Shinde wife of Arun said, "Four of my sister-in-laws want part in the property of my father-in-law. Everyday, they used to fight with my husband but one day when it blew out of proportion, he committed suicide."
Since then, Shivaji went into depression as he used to blame himself for the death of his son. He wanted to die to reunite. "He stopped talking to people, hardly used to sleep. He always used to cry for his son who was dear to him," said Gauri.
On Tuesday morning around 11 am, he hung himself from the ceiling and committed suicide. Parksite police station has registered the case.
"Due to clash in the property matter, Arun committed suicide. But Shivaji couldn't forgive himself and went into depression. So, he took the extreme step and committed suicide," said Shivraj Phadol, investigative officer from Parksite police station.
He was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival and a post mortem was conducted.
Dr Balaji Phalke, a MBBS doctor and a forensic expert who conducted the post mortem said, "Shivaji was brought dead to the hospital. We discharged the body at around 3pm after conducting the post mortem."
