Mumbai: BEST bus hits pedestrians; one dead, two injured

A tragic accident took place at Tilak road, Santacruz station (west) where a BEST bus coming towards the station hit three pedestrians, who along with the bus' driver were hospitalised

A tragic accident took place at Tilak road, Santacruz station (west) where a BEST bus coming towards the station hit three pedestrians, who along with the bus' driver were hospitalised.


Sachin Nishad (19) and Sunil Jain (18) were shifted to the Sion Hospital where they are undergoing treatment. Phulchand Jaiswal (44) who was shifted to Cooper Hospital from Sion hospital has been declared dead and his body had been sent for the postmortem.


A case had been registered in the Santacruz Police Station. The Senior police inspector, Shantanu Pawar said, "Bus number MH01AP0638 has dashed an auto rickshaw along with the pedestrians. Phulchand Jaiswal a resident of Hanuman Thekri, Santacruz east has died in the accident. Bus driver is also hospitalized in the Bhabha hospital but is out of danger.”


A day after the accident took place in which Phulchand Jaiswal had lost his life, doctors said that Sunil Jain was out of danger now and will get discharged in a day or two. But the condition of Sachin Nishad is quite critical. He is on ventilator.

Sunil Jain has a garbage shop at Santacruz west. Shankar Meena, a boy working in his shop said, "this accident took place around 9-9.30 and the injured were first taken to the Asha Parekh hospital in Santacruz, West from where they were taken to the Sion Hospital. Sunil was coming from his home to the shop when this accident took place.” Sunil's uncle had informed mid day that he was unable to speak since childhood.
