Mob upset at monorail after truck kills man

In the three hours prior to midnight yesterday, around 200 residents took to the streets at RC Marg near Chembur in a violent protest.

They jammed the roads and blocked the traffic, extremely rattled after a road mishap they believe was caused because of Monorail construction.

Residents in Chembur blocked the traffic after a road mishap yesterday

After a heavy vehicle ran an unidentified man over at RC Marg, the locals vented pent-up anger by coming out on the roads.

They claim that the accidents are increasing by the day because of the Monorail work, which is underway and has made the road narrower.

The accident occurred at around 9 pm, when a speeding truck rammed the man, who was crossing the road at R C Marg.

The road has become narrower and more congested. There are trucks speeding on it all the time, causing major accidents."

A police inspector requesting anonymity said, "With the ongoing work, the locals are very angry.

This road used to be traffic-free but is now one of the most congested roads in the city. At night, heavy vehicles pass through this road, adding to the congestion."

Inspector Vijay Hatishkar

of RCF police station said, "After the accident, the locals started protesting against the monorail work, which is in progress. We have controlled the situation."

He added, "We have sent the body to Rajawadi Hospital for postmortem. Meanwhile, we are trying to identify the deceased."
