Local netas demand Sanjeev Kokil's transfer after the cop refuses to let illegal businesses flourish in the area

Honest cop Sanjeev Kokil has incurred the wrath of his neighbourhood smugglers in his attempt to clear the pavements in and around Musafirkhana the hub of cheap foreign goods in SoBo.

Senior Inspector Kokil's troubles came to the fore when he took charge of cash-rich MRA police station, a stone's distance from Musafirkhana and Manish Market.

The move took an even more interesting twist when some tainted local politicians began backing the illegal businesses.

A group of touts collected outside the MRA station yesterday under the guidance of a former MLAu00a0 and demanded Kokil's transfer from the station.

Sources within the police station say that the politician wanted to encroach on land at Musafirkhana and tried to bribe Kokil and other cops at the station.u00a0

A senior official on the condition of anonymity, said, "The leader met Kokil and told him that he wanted to encroach a room at Dormitory Building, Sabu Siddique road, Musafirkhana.

He also told him that he had prepared forged documents to capture the room. He allegedly also offered Kokil a huge bribe to help him."

However, Kokil refused to dou00a0 and immediately complained to the Commissioner of Police (copy is with MiD DAY) on May 22, 2010.

"My superiors know everything and they know who is right and who is wrong.

I have put an end to underworld activities in Musafirkhana and will continue to do so," said Kokil.
