The Patil family, that was forced on the street by recovery agents from a finance company they had taken a loan from, has gone on hunger strike.

The patriarch of the family, Dilip Patil, said that he would write a letter to the chief minister, home minister and Mumbai police commissioner.

MiD DAY had yesterday reported yesterday ('Debt-ridden family made homeless') about how Patil's family was threatening to commit suicide if recovery agents didn't give them their house back.

Patil, who lives in Empire Building in Sher-e-Punjab society in Andheri (E) with his wife and two kids, got caught in the recovery agents' crosshairs, after he skipped a few months' payment on a business loan of Rs 44 lakh.

The Patils have since been staying in the building's compound, and they say they have not got any positive reaction from anyone. His children, Clarence (19) and Glen (14) are still in the same clothes they were wearing yesterday, and are skipping their college and school.

The family's possessions are in their locked-up house.

Patil said, "We are on a hunger strike and we are going to stay in the building's compound until we are given justice. We have nothing to wear as all our clothes are inside the house. My son has developed an allergy and scars have appeared all over his body."

"A migrant friend of mine asked me to stay with him till I get my house back. I am not going anywhere and tomorrow I am going to write letters to the police commissioner, home minister and chief minister," he added. The family says it has been left out on a limb as no one has offered to ease their ordeal.
