Leela Suresh Thevar was taken to Bhabha Hospital and was declared out of danger. Speaking to MiD DAY, her son Raja said, “My mother had borrowed money from three different people for my elder sister’s wedding.
She had left documents to our house as collateral with a female moneylender. But, when my mother paid her back the Rs 2 lakh she had borrowed and asked for the papers, the lady turned greedy and started demanding more money.”
The family says the other two moneylenders also started harassing Leela. She retorted by threatening to register a complaint with the local police, to which they allegedly replied that they had contacts at higher places and would register false complaints against her.
Fearful of the consequences, Leela then decided to meet the Additional CP in hope of justice. “I don’t know who suggested this to my mother, but she went to his office at Bandra.
However, she got scared and started to worry that police officials would harass her too, and she consumed poison near the Additional CP’s office,” said Raja.
Leela was taken to hospital by some female constables from Bandra police station. “We were told she was in hopsital, when we didn’t even know she had gone to Bandra to meet a top cop,” Raja added.
