MMRDA accorded administrative approval to the appointment of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to implement the 18.5-km long Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor
In what can be termed as a very important decision regarding the development of Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the Maharashtra government has decided to handover the ambitious 18.5 km Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for implementation.

The Executive Committee of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), headed by Swadhin Kshatriya, Chairman, Executive Committee, MMRDA and Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra on Thursday accorded administrative approval to the appointment of the DMRC to implement the 18.5-km long Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor and interim consultant for the 16.5-km long Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) Metro-7 corridor.
The Executive Committee also approved 25 electric/hybrid buses for the Bandra-Kurla Complex and appointed contractor to construct a 3-km long flyover from Late Rajiv Gandhi Chowk to Saibaba Mandir in the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation area.
"The growing demand for speedy and comfortable public transport will always remain on top of our priority list to bring back the lost glory of India’s financial capital. Of course, we also understand the necessity to develop the metropolitan region and so you will notice that MMRDA undertakes projects for the city as also its metropolitan region. It’s all about total development", said UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
The Rs.5,566-crore Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro corridor is the first phase of the Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro-2 corridor and will be implemented by the DMRC who have prepared the Detailed Project Report of the project.
The DMRC has also been appointed Interim Consultants for the Rs.4,737/-crore Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) Metro-7 corridor. The DMRC will oversee the project and will help prepare all documentation related to construction including bid documents, estimations etc.
The Executive Committee, during the meeting, also approved 25 electric/hybrid buses in a bid to ease commuting woes in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. The buses will be provided at a cost of Rs.53 crore by the lowest bidder M/s.Tata Motors Pvt.Ltd. “The Complex has been the centre of attention for a number of activities and the demand for bus service was echoing for some time and has also been seconded by the BKC Plot Owners’ Association. The provision of bus service is also a part of Smart BKC Project”, elaborated Sanjay Sethi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
The Committee further appointed contractor M/s.JMC Project (I) Ltd. to construct a 3-km long 7.5-meter wide two-lane flyover from the Late Rajiv Gandhi Chowk to Saibaba Mandir in the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation area. The Rs.150-crore flyover, which will not only provide relief to traffic congestion but will also reduce number of accidents on Bhiwandi-Kalyan road, is expected to be completed within a period of 30 months.
