Police have intensified their investigations into the flourishing prostitution racket that was discovered during a raid in an apartment owned by former city police commissioner and Lok Sabha MP Satyapal Singh. The police have learnt that the apartment was being rented out to prostitutes and their clients at the rate of Rs 1,000 per hour.

One of the accused in the case, a man identified as Raja, is still on the loose, with police raiding different locations where they suspect he could be hiding out. The caretaker of the apartment Vakil Raju Shah, who is in police custody, revealed that he met Raja a few months ago, who asked him to let out the flat to him on an hourly basis.

According to sources from Versova police station, Shah and Raja worked in close coordination. Raja asked Shah to help him run the prostitution business in the apartment, knowing that officials from Indiabulls — to which Singh had leased the apartment visited the apartment sporadically.

“Before sending any customer or sex worker to the flat, Raja would ask Shah if there were any guests in the apartment. Only after his confirming that the flat was empty would he give sex workers the green signal,” the officer added.
