The police have beefed up security outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's residence – Matoshree - after receiving a phone call from an unidentified man claiming to be underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's aide on Saturday. The caller wanted to connect the CM with Dawood and threatened to blow up Matoshree if Thackeray didn't speak.

Mumbai police spokesperson N Ambika told mid-day, "Security has been beefed up at Matoshree following the threat call. An inquiry in the matter is underway."
According to the Crime Branch, at around 9 pm on Saturday, the operator at Matoshree received a call where the caller claimed to be calling on behalf of Dawood. "The caller introduced himself as a D gang member calling from Dubai and asked the operator to connect him to the chief minister so Dawood could speak to him about some important issue," a senior officer told mid-day.
The operator didn't connect him to the CM and disconnected the call. "Within seconds, the person called again and threatened to blow up Matoshree if the CM didn't come on the line," the officer added.
Immediately, the CM's security team was informed and police security was increased outside his bungalow in Bandra East. The Anti Extortion Cell of the Crime Branch is inquiring into the call. "It may be a hoax but we cannot take a risk and hence security has been increased. After the inquiry, if needed, we will register an FIR," the officer said.
