The Mumbai police and Associates, an anti-piracy firm, seized over 10,000 pirated DVDs and CDs (pictured), which included 400 pirated copies of the Amitabh Bachhan-starrer Paa, on Saturday night.

Inspector Tangad Palli of the Social Service Branch of the police and a team of five led by A A Khan and Associates raided three locations near McDonalds restaurant, Natco Pharma and Hotel Arasa in Andheri.

They arrested Sajid Akhtar (24) and Khushbuddin Padar (20), who were booked und-er sections 51, 52-A, 63 and 68-A of the Copyright Act and Section 292-A of the IPC.

"The police does what it can do to curb piracy, but all efforts in that direction come to nothing because the common man continues to purchase pirated movies.

Citizens should remember that piracy not only denies creators of the content their fair share of profits, proceeds from sales of pirated products are often used to fund illegal activities, including terrorism," said Aftab Ahmed Khan, a former IPS officer noted for his encounter killings of gangsters.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan said, "I am glad the authorities have seized pirated DVDs of Paa. We laud their efforts."
