A woman suffered injuries to her head and eyes after a mentally challenged man threw a stone at her in Borivli on Tuesday.

The police said that the woman, identified as Janhvi Gohil, 38, a resident of Ekta Nagar in Kandivli and an accountant by profession, was travelling in an autorickshaw when someone flung a stone at her. The rickshaw had reached Kalpana Chawla Chowk at 9 am.

Gohil in her statement said that her left eye started bleeding. The rickshaw driver stopped the vehicle and the woman saw that the accused had been caught by the patrolling police officers.

The accused, identified as Mukeshkumar Thakurprasad Baniya, was caught by the patrolling team and was booked and arrested under section 337 of the Indian Penal Code, said Inspector Namdev Jadhav from Borivli police station.

During the investigation it has been revealed that Baniya is mentally unstable. He had thrown the stone unintentionally while sitting on the footpath at
