Navi Mumbai crime: Four held for stealing mobile phones; 29 handsets recovered

Navi Mumbai crime: The Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra have reportedly arrested four persons from Navi Mumbai city for alleged thefts of mobile phones, the police said on Thursday, according to the PTI.


The police said, after their arrest, the cops also seized as many as 29 stolen mobile phones from their possession, reported the PTI.


According to the news agency, with these arrests, the police have detected 17 offences of mobile phone thefts registered in Panvel taluka, Kamothe, Taloja, Panvel town, Khandeshwar, Kalamboli, Kharghar and CBD police station areas in Navi Mumbai, senior police inspector Umesh Gavli said.


After analysing CCTV footage and based on intelligence and technical inputs, the police on Wednesday arrested the four persons, all habitual offenders in the age group of 19 to 24 and hailing from Jalna, Hingoli, Yavatmal and Satara, he said, as per the PTI.

The accused were working as masons in Navi Mumbai, the official said.

The police have seized 29 stolen mobiles and a motorbike collectively worth Rs 5.02 lakh from the accused, he added.

Meanwhile, in an another matter in Mumbai, the Mumbai police arrested three persons for allegedly stealing mobile phones onboard crowded BEST buses and recovered 32 stolen devices, an official said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.

The accused Shoeb Mobin Khan (21), Baitullah Kalamuddin Khan (36) and Nadir Sheikh (38) allegedly targeted commuters travelling in crowded buses at different locations, he said, reported PTI.

The police first apprehended Shoeb and Baitullah, who revealed that they sold stolen phones to Nadir who resold them in the market at cheaper rates, he said, reported PTI.

Following a raid at Nadir's house, the police recovered 32 mobile phones, he added, reported PTI.

The trio have been arrested under sections 379 (theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said, reported PTI.

In another case, the Mumbai police have arrested three persons in connection with the break-in and theft at a shop from where valuables worth Rs 63 lakh were stolen in the western suburb of Khar here, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.

The police on Sunday arrested Gulab Ganesh Marwadi alias Akshay (25), Surya Mani Nadar (21) and Sanjay Kedare (19) from the Andheri and Juhu areas, he said, reported PTI.
