A bike without a number plate that was stopped during a police nakabandi in Worli, Mumbai led to the arrest of a wanted burglar against whom multiple cases were registered in Maharashtra and Gujarat, the police said on Saturday.

According to the police, on February 9, a nakabandi was being carried out at Jijamata Nagar in Worli by the police when a man on a 'suspicious' bike that had no number plate, was stopped. He was not even wearing a helmet. When he was asked to stop, he allegedly attempted to flee from the spot. However, a team of police officials nabbed him.

The police said, he was initially questioned about the bike but he did not give satisfactory answers and hence he was detained and taken to Worli Police Station for further questioning.

The police said, a team of officials began questioning him, while another team of police officials began to check the bike he was riding. In the process, the police recovered Rs 7.46 lakh cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 50.34 lakh from him.

"Further investigations revealed that there were multiple cases registered against him in different police stations," an official said.
