Dipak Nikalje, brother of gangster Rajan Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan, has been booked for extortion after complaints by housing society members.

The complainants told police that the builder, who is set to develop their housing society, took them to Nikalje’s bungalow where they were threatened and asked to sign a court paper. Pant Nagar cops are investigating the matter.

According to the complaint filed by an 80-year-old Ghatkopar resident, builder Mukesh Patel took the residents of Sant Namdeo Housing Society to Dipak Nikalje’s bungalow where Nikalje allegedly threatened them. Nikalje allegedly asked the complainant, who is president of the housing society, to sign on few papers and also gave over Rs 50,000 to another resident and took a signed cheque from him of the same amount.

“The housing society is set to undergo rehabilitation but builders are hand in gloves with Nikalje. They took the society committee members to the latter's residence and forced them to sign a document which could be produced in court as consent for the project. Also, money was given in cash to the committee members and cheque of the same amount was taken from them to show as fees of the advocate,” said an officer from Pant Nagar police station.

Senior inspector of Pant Nagar police station Suhas Kamble confirmed the development. He said, “We have filed an FIR under IPC Sections 384 (extortion) and 34 (common intention) against a builder and few others.”
