A day after a man tried to kill his 28-year-old girlfriend by setting her ablaze, which eventually led to his death when the woman held on to him while on fire, the victim succumbed to her burn injuries at a hospital. She had suffered 80 per cent burns in the incident. An officer from Meghwadi police station said that she died at JJ Hospital around 10 am.

Police said Vijay Khambe set the woman on fire because he wanted to marry her, but her parents had rejected the proposal. Even the woman had started to dislike him because of his alcohol addiction. Angry over this, Khambe went to her house and tried to kill her. However, while on fire the woman grabbed hold of him, leading to Khambe suffering 90 per cent burns and eventually to his death.

During the investigation witnesses said they had rushed the woman to the Trauma Hospital. After the cops arrived at the spot, they took Khambe to the same hospital but as his condition was critical, he was shifted to JJ hospital. However, he died during treatment on Sunday itself, a police officer said. He added that after conducting a panchnama and other documentation work, the woman’s body was handed over to her family.
