A 40-year-old tribal woman was waylaid on the night of August 31, dragged to the bushes and raped by a villager, a district police official said here today

Palghar: A 40-year-old tribal woman was waylaid on the night of August 31, dragged to the bushes and raped by a villager, a district police official said here today.


Assistant police inspector S N Chodhar of the Wada police station said that she was on her way home at about 9 pm on the fateful day along the Kalambai-Ganeshpuri road, when the accused blocked her path and parked the motorcycle in front of her.


Later, he dragged her to the bushes by the side of the road and raped her, the police official said. An offence under Sections 376(1) and Section 341 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and a probe is on, the police official said. The police official said that the woman has identified the accused and a manhunt is on to nab him.
