When you think of a quiz, mental health isn’t the first theme that will pop into your mind, points out Anvita Walia, senior programme officer at One Future Collective (OFC). “The topic of mental health, to this day, has a lot of stigma attached to it,” she says. This weekend, Walia along with OFC, will host the Funda-mental Quiz, a not-for-profit fundraising event that aims to create awareness about mental health, in a fun and engaging way for people from all ages and walks of life.

“We wanted to create this quiz, not in a format of ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions, but in a way that we put forth facts and histories of mental health. For instance, take the word ‘hysteria’. The word dates back to ancient Greece, and was used in connection with the movement of a woman’s uterus. To this day, the word is often used in bad taste. Through these facts, we are trying to share these histories with participants,” adds Walia. The idea is to de-stigmatise concepts, and present complex mental-health concepts in a way that’s comprehensive. It’s supposed to be a mixture of fun facts and pop-culture references, so that the ideas are accessible to all those who choose to attend.
In addition to this, funds raised from the quiz will flow into OFC’s COVID-19 Mental Health Project, which hopes to facilitate training and conduct research in the field during and post-pandemic.
