The Lack of late night hangouts in the eastern suburb of Mulund has been a constant grouse among its residents. This could possibly be one of the reasons why, when we dropped by the newly-opened D'Crepes Cafe in Mulund at 11.30 pm, we found it packed.

The warmly lit cafe offers an array of eats, including pizza, salad, burgers, hot and cold beverages, a variety of desserts, entrees and crêpes. The cafe also offers freshly baked goodies such as multi-grain breads and croissants, which we are sure to try on our next visit.

To beat the humidity, we first ordered Jalapeno Lemonade (Rs 150, prices inclusive of taxes) and a Blueberry Banana Smoothie (Rs 180). The lemonade was just what we needed to soothe our parched throats on a warm April night — an amped up nimbu pani with the perfect kick of jalapenos and mint. The smoothie scored well too with its fresh, fruity blend and thick consistency.

We started our meal with a vegetarian Verdura Crepe (Rs 210) and non-vegetarian Crepe Indonesian (Rs 270, buckwheat version). Both the crepes were loaded with fresh vegetables and could make for a satisfying meal if eaten on their own. Stuffed with broccoli, baby corn, bell pepper, zucchini, onion, and cream cheese and balsamic dressing, Verdura was a perfect balance of the crunch of the vegetables and fresh flavours, making for one non-greasy meal. Crepe Indonesian had several ingredients associated with South East Asian dishes such as sesame seeds, lemon grass, spring onion and a peanut-based sauce to go with Satay chicken.

While the Cheesy French Fries Skin On (Rs 150) made us wish we had a cold beer on the side, our other side order, Chicken Strips Tossed in Chilly Garlic Sauce (Rs 230), was a yummy local Asian restaurant style appetiser.

The German Sausage Pizza (Rs 380, 10 inch) was a meaty delight with chicken sausage slices and a thin crust layered with just the right amount of a mustard-based sauce.

We saved their sweet crepe offerings for dessert and called for the Crepe-Choco-Licious (Rs 210). True to its name, the crepe was a chocolate lover's delight with a stuffing of chocolate ganache, chocolate sauce, choco chips, walnuts and brownie.
