It might have a name that could belong to an upstart band but Heartbakers and the Pizza Guy makes for the perfect pit stop in Bandra to savour homemade pizza-by-the-slice at competent prices
Pizza
Pizza-lovers can smile. There’s a new pizza place on Carter Road, with an offbeat name — Heartbakers and the Pizza Guy — and it happens to be pretty good too. Run by a brother-sister duo and featuring just six pizzas on its menu, the place has a homely vibe and this extends to their pizzas as well. Just two weeks old, we realised that they are still figuring out aspects like the packaging of their pizza boxes.

So, when we collected our takeaway order, it was served in simple, neat white cardboard boxes. Most pizzas here have a single topping, which is easier to handle with the pizza-by-the-slice concept. The place does not currently do home deliveries. They serve only pizza-by-the-slice (one slice is 1/6th of a 14-inch pie) so, except for the Cheese, we tried all the varieties.
The Smoky Bacon (Rs 110) and the Smoked Chicken (Rs 110) were nice, and the Mushroom Pizza (Rs 100) had a lot of mushroom, which was good. The Pepperoni Pizza (Rs 140) was by far our favourite — it’s perfect. The crusts of all the pizzas were thin and crisp.
The well-stocked dessert shelves are very inviting. You might have to have more than one as we found it difficult to choose. The Chocolate Creme Eclairs (Rs 60) were melt in the mouth; these were neither soggy nor too hard. The Banana and Toffee Banoffee Pie Cups (Rs 80) are perfectly layered and served in little plastic cups. For someone who is not very fond of the fruit, we enjoyed this treat. You absolutely cannot miss the Toasted Almond and Caramel Torte (Rs 120), which was soft, gooey, and fresh; besides, the caramel gave a lovely aftertaste.
Apart from their official timings, we were told that there are days when they are sold out by 9 pm. We suggest you pre-place your order to ensure no heartbreak. Since we were to return home with our pizza boxes in an autorickshaw, the owners thoughtfully offered to carry the boxes for us and walk out to where we could find transport. Just like home, we say.
