Meet the 17-year-old YouTuber who has made Ranveer Singh stuff his face with marshmallows and tested Malaika Arora Khan's drawing skills in candid chats

Hanee Chavan

In a nine-minute online video, Ranveer Singh fields a volley of questions thrown at him by 17-year-old Hanee Chavan. A refreshing detour from promotional interviews revolving around his films or current dating status, he opens up about his life as a teen — his first kiss was at 12, his teen crush was an anglo-Indian teacher and at 17, he sported spikes and blond streaks "which were quite trendy then".

Then, he's asked to take up the Chubby Bunny Challenge, where he stuffs his mouth with marshmallows and hums songs that Chavan has to guess. Uploaded on her YouTube channel earlier this month, the entertaining video is part of Chavan's Unplugged series, where she chats with celebrities from the POV of a teen. In the last couple of weeks, she has uploaded her conversations with Sonam Kapoor and Malaika Arora Khan. The videos have generated over over a lakh clicks.

A Class 12 student of the IB programme at Podar International, Chavan decided to launch her own channel, spurred by her interest in public speaking. She shares, "I have always loved to participate in elocution competitions. I also like socialising with people. As a teenager, I also have a lot of ideas and opinions that I want to share with the world; I feel YouTube is the best platform for this because I can connect with people of my age."

In her videos, Chavan touches upon different issues that plague the teen world. For instance, Kapoor shares the ill effects of drug abuse while Khan chats about her balancing act of being a cool and strict mother to her teenage son, Arhaan. The latter also participates in a fun guess-the-drawing session with Chavan. "The idea is to get Bollywood celebrities to chat about subjects that teens can relate to, whether it is eating disorders, image issues, peer pressure or body shaming," says Chavan, who edits the videos and uploads them every Monday. The next one features dancer-actor Lauren Gottlieb, shot at Juhu beach.

When we ask if she gets nervous chatting with the stars, she says, "It can get overwhelming but in that moment, I think of them as my friends. I also curate the list based on the ones who I would share a bond with. For instance, when I first met Ranveer, I was nervous but he made me comfortable and insisted that we should have fun, and so, we decided on the Chubby Bunny Challenge." The teen, who wishes to pursue an honours degree in Liberal Arts, is also training in Kathak and Western Classical dance, besides being interested in visual arts and writing.
