The festive season is synonymous with excesses – of fried, greasy foods, sugary treats, refined flour, and essentially empty calories that leave you feeling bloated and unhealthy in their aftermath. To counter this, nutritionists recommend a simple detox regimen that can offset some of the damage and also steer you back towards a healthy nutritional routine. Kejal Shah, a nutritionist and founder of Nutrivity recommends the following steps:

1. Keep yourself well hydrated has this helps to flush out toxins from your body.
2. Begin your day with a glass of warm water, to which you can add a pinch of cinnamon powder and some lemon juice.
3. Fresh fruits and vegetables are packed of vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body to function efficiently. Eat fruits as a mid-morning snack, and drink vegetable juice as a mid-evening snack.
4. Whenever you crave a sweet, munch on two dates with few nuts, such as almonds or walnuts.
5. Restart your exercise routine slowly but steadily. Choose an exercise that suits you best. This could include jogging, cycling, gym workouts, running or pilates.
6. Make sure your meals contain a suitable balance of vegetables and pulses – eating adequate protein and fibre will keep you satiated for longer periods.
