Reel journey through Manipur's narrative traditions

Fried Fish, Chicken Soup and a Premiere Show, is a 90-minute documentary film directed by Mumbai-based filmmaker Mamta Murthy, that looks at cinema in Manipur.

The road film trails a Manipuri feature film unit through the picturesque hills of Manipur while delving on its unique narrative traditions. Through the film, Murthy explores the impact of cinema on the lives of common people living in the conflict zones of Manipur and how the narrative changes and contemporarises itself in sync with changes in society.

Though Manipur has been wrecked by state and non-state militancy, it still has an indigenous cinema industry and the film showcases the story of its culture through the film industry. The film, which is being screened at the NCPA today, is part of the NCPA Fresh Pix series that aims to create an audience for regional cinema.
