Rajouri Garden has made it's mark. Now it's neighbour Kirti Nagar is trying to catch up with the culinary revolution
Kapoor uncle in Rajouri Garden drives a Merc because it stands for old money; son Lucky loves his flashy BMW while Sweety prefers Audi, the chosen, if not official, means of transportation of Bollywood. The same goes when it comes to food in Rajouri Garden. Things are well defined when it comes to food and cars in this upscale west Delhi neighbourhood. Kirti Nagar next door is a different story.
Kirti Nagar came up with its first mall recently. And tucked in this mall's corner is ET AL Cafe. Like all enthusiastic endeavours, the cafe boasts of a contemporary chic look and to some extent it does
succeed in exuding one. If the upholstery inside is a little tacky for your taste, sit outside, the furniture is sober, the music is softer and the November sun is incredibly soothing.
The menu will throw up American, Mediterranean and European preparations but it remains a basic affair so you won't have to use up too much of your grey cells going through it. I started with a Non-veg Mezze platter here. The poultry part of this was excellent and it was one of the best I had dug my fork in recently. Succulent, sleek and tempting as a seductive siren! The lamb part of this mezze story was a little inadequate. The Sizzling Veg Fajita is it's rival. Without chicken, shrimp or pork and only with mushrooms and vegetables, the cafe created a Tex-Mex entity worth its salt.
But the story gets a little dull after these two. The pastas Fusili Mushroom/Spinach Alfredo and Penne Arabiatta (chicken and lamb) were decent but not exceptional. The Fish Amritsariu00a0-- a last minute decisionu00a0-- however was a surprise. Pity it made an appearance in the end, it was something I should have ordered first.
Why one should drop into ET Al cafe? You should be Lucky or Sweety from Kirty Nagar who would want to keep up with their counterparts in Rajouri Garden. It is the perfect stepping stone to upgrade your cool quotient, smoke a sheesha here, order an Oreo shake and you have crossed the first hurdle.
But what if your name is not Lucky? Well, Kirti Nagar's Moments Mall is like reliving Rajouri's TDI, City Square or Paradise mall experience all over again. It's like discovering west Delhi all over again and in the process enjoying a succulent mezze platter.
