The trailer of the eight-episode series was launched along with the cast of the show at a five-star property in the Bandra area of Mumbai on August 20
Bollywood bigwig Karan Johar was in his element on Tuesday during the trailer launch of his upcoming production ‘Call Me Bae’
During the event, when the emcee addressed Karan as ‘Sir’ owing to his seniority in the film fraternity, KJo almost humorously took offence and urged her not to call him sir. KJo said, “Sir? Please, I’m here with a bunch of millennials, and I would like to believe I’m a part of this cool group and very much a millennial. So, please, no ‘sir’”.
Later, during the interaction with the emcee actor Gurfateh Pirzada spoke about how this show helped me explore more facets of himself as an artist and went on to express his gratitude to Karan and his team for giving him a chance to work on the project where again he addressed Karan as ‘Karan sir” before he immediately corrected himself and said, “Karan”
At the trailer launch of Call Me Bae, Karan Johar said, “It’s been 23 years to K3G, but if Pooja (Pooh) and Rohan Raichand had a daughter, she would be like Bae. Ananya’s character in this show is a 2.0 derivative of Pooh.”
Ananya Panday also spoke about her character’s resemblance to Kareena Kapoor’s character from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and said how she has been a fan of the character. “Pooh is iconic. I dress up like her even now at 23. I have all her quotes on my mirror. She has left an imprint on me.”
Talking further about her character Ananya said, "As a character, I never made fun of Bae even though she said some really silly things. It’s very important not to judge her as a character, even though people in the show do judge her. She is a very positive girl. But her best quality is she doesn’t judge people back.”
Meanwhile, ‘Call Me Bae’ follows actress Ananya Panday's titular character Bae, who belongs to an affluent family from Delhi and has grown up in a very protected environment. Her world changes when she moves to Mumbai
The series also stars Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur in pivotal roles. The series offers a peek into the life of Bae as she hustles with all her muscles in the maximum city of Mumbai
“Directing Call Me Bae has been an incredibly rewarding journey. The idea of taking a fish out of water and watching them evolve is both fresh and engaging, making it a standout coming-of-age story.” said director Collin D’Cunha
The series has been directed by Collin D'Cunha and created by Ishita Moitra, who has also written the series along with Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair
Call Me Bae will premiere in Hindi, with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, exclusively on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on September 6
