'Sasural Simar Ka', one of the longest running shows on television, is set to bid adieu to the small screen audience. The daily soap turned supernatural drama, which stars Dipika Kakkar as Simar, recently completed 1600 episodes and will come to an end in about two months.

A source working on the show says, "It is the right time for us to have a logical end to the story. The 20-year leap, which was recently effected, has not worked in our favour. The TRPs have also not been too impressive since long, so the decision has been taken to end it."

The show, which started airing in April 2011, revolved around the lives of two sisters, Roli and Simar, who are married into the Bharadwaj household. Recently, Dipika trended on social media when her character turned into a fly. And with the latest development — the time leap — the focus has now turned to the children of Simar and Prem, who have separated from each other.

A unit hand reveals some of the actors are also not too happy about playing older characters. So far, the show has taken three leaps in all, with ample entries and exits.

"The channel initially changed the telecast time from 7.30 pm to 6 pm as the TRPs were continuously dipping, and the primetime slot was given to a new show, Devanshi. They have tried to work out different things, but it looks like the decision to end it will be announced soon as they think now is the right time. They have a couple of shows lined to be launched," adds the insider.

The channel spokesperson chose not to comment and makers didn’t respond to text messages.

Jyotsana Chandola, who plays a key character, Khushi Sankalp Bharadwaj, in the show, says, "We are not aware of any such decision, but are positive that it will sustain for more time."
