Suga, J-hope reveal BTS was almost kicked out of their dorms when BigHit had no money

BTS members Suga and J-hope on the latest episode of Suchwita

BTS member Suga (Min Yoongi) once again welcomed fellow band member and good friend J-Hope on the latest episode of his talk show, Suchwita. The episode was pre-recorded since J-Hope aka Jung Hoseok is currently serving in the South Korean military. As the two of the older Bangtan members got together, the conversation turned quite nostalgic as they reminisced about the time they were mere trainees under BigHit Entertainment.

Throughout the episode, J-Hope and Suga shared insights that touched upon J-Hope’s solo debut, his future plans, the future of BTS, and nostalgic moments from their past that they spent together as trainees.

During one such conversation, they started talking about their first dorm at 9-8 Nonhyeong-dong in Seoul. Older ARMYs know that when BTS started out, they used to live in a cramped apartment which was reportedly 56 sq.m altogether in area.

But fans didn’t know that BTS almost got kicked out of that dorm before their debut. Explaining the situation back then, Suga said it was a tough time, and BigHit Music (then called BigHit Entertainment) had run out of funds entirely. Though they didn’t dissolve the group, the members were asked to go back home since the company couldn’t afford their accommodation anymore.

The company had even told them to find new places to live on their own. But the members didn’t have the money to afford their own accommodation. None of the band members are native to Seoul - they had all moved to the South Korean capital to pursue their dreams after being selected by BigHit.

On Suchwita, J-Hope and Suga said that they, despite the company’s request, refused to leave. Suga added that he, team leader RM (Kim Namjoon), and J-Hope stood their ground and said, "We can't move out, we don't have the money." Fortunately, BigHit received a final investment, which made it possible for BTS to debut.

Suga wondered what made them persevere through so many struggles. J-Hope credited Bang Si Hyuk, the founder of their company, for getting all seven of them together. Although BTS are among the biggest celebrities globally, they have undergone their fair share of struggles in their early days. BigHit Entertainment has also evolved into HYBE Labels, one of the biggest entertainment labels in South Korea.
