Sound check: A snap review of new music

Blame it on the vocals that seem to be excessively  touched-up, a melody that isn’t particularly catchy, or even the lyrics that, at times, don’t seem to coherently allude to anything, but this one seems like a waste of what could have been a meaningful collaboration.

Maroon

Remedy from Maroon 5’s seventh studio album, Jordi, is perhaps the weakest link of the entire track-list. Despite being supported by Stevie Nicks’ legendary vocals, the track is way too pale to inspire another listen. Placed amid an array of promising tracks — including the title track, a hair-raising tribute to the band’s manager Jordan Feldstein, who died in 2017 — Remedy recedes to the backdrop.

Music milestone


Zakir Hussain

1997: The National Centre for the Performing Arts held a year-long celebration to mark 50 years of Indian Independence. The landmark event was ushered in with a concert on August 14, by sitar legend Ravi Shankar and tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain. They played an uplifting rendition of poet-philosopher Muhammad Iqbal’s Sare jahan se accha, at the stroke of midnight. Several renowned artistes took part in the festival.
