This Susanna Fogel-directed comedy has the sass and funnies to keep you chortling for most of its runtime. Unexpectedly thrust into an international conspiracy, besties Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon) find themselves dodging killers and a suspicious British agent (Sam Heughen) while attempting to save the world.
The feminist BFF airstream into an espionage caper once it has been established that Drew (Justin Theroux), Audrey's ex is a CIA operative. The easy chemistry of the stars makes this hodgepodge attempt at action-comedy highly inflammable.
The film could have been a bigger winner had the director allowed McKinnon a larger portion of the runtime. Instead, we are made to suffer through Audrey's interaction with Sebastian (Sam Heughan), mere hours after watching Drew die. The plot may be far-fetched, but the elemental humour is so overpowering that you don't mind the nonsense.
Fogel's able helming builds up a fluid rhythm that keeps you charmed despite the passé action sequences and less-than-fresh plot twists. It's ultimately McKinnon's highly inventive unrestraint that keeps this zany rom-com popping with verbal and physical surprise. As long as you are willing to take all the silliness in your stride, this could well turn out to be the stress buster you needed all along!
