Saira Banu extend her condolences after Pankaj Udhas' death

Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas has passed away after suffering from a prolonged illness, as stated by his family in a press release. The singer was renowned for his soulful ghazals and playback singing in films. The news of Pankaj Udhas' death has sent shockwaves throughout the entire music industry.


Now, as several celebrities extend their condolences, veteran actress Saira Banu also took to her Instagram to extend her condolences on the ghazal legend’s demise.


In a heartfelt note, Saira Banu expressed deep sadness over the passing of Pankaj Udhas Ji, a cherished friend who, along with his wife, shared memorable moments with Dilip Kumar Sahib and her.


She fondly remembers Pankaj Ji as an exceptionally gentle person and went on to share fond memories of the late singer in a caption that said, "I am saddened to learn of the passing of Pankaj Udhas Ji. He and his wife frequently visited Dilip Sahib and me at our home. Pankaj Ji was exceptionally gentle by nature and full of old-world charm. He always spoke in a poetic language and had utmost preciosity. I fondly recall Sahib's enjoyment of his ghazals during evenings; Pankaj Ji's voice flowed like the soothing sound of a river, offering solace to all who listened. May he rest in peace, his memory cherished in our hearts forever." 

The news of his Pankaj Udhas’ death was confirmed by his family via a statement. "With profound sadness, we inform you of the passing of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on February 26th due to a prolonged illness. -- The Udhas Family," the statement read.

To note, Pankaj Udhas’ last rites will be held today at his residence in Mumbai.  Ahead of the funeral, several celebrities arrived to pay their condolences to the bereaved family. Musicians Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Salim Marchant and Ustad Zakir Hussain were spotted arriving at the house of the singer. 

Pankaj Udhas was born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat. In addition to ghazals, he was well-known for his film work. In 1980, he gained widespread popularity for his solo ghazal album 'Aahat'. Later, he recorded other successes, including Mukarar (1981), Tarrannum (1982), Mehfil (1983), and many more. Some of his popular renditions are 'Chitthi Aayi Hai', 'Chandani Raat Mein', 'Na Kajre Ki Dhaar', 'Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein', 'Ek Taraf Uska Ghar' and 'Thodi Thodi Piya Karo'.
