If you're an active user of the internet, you must be familiar with the viral video that showed Nana Patekar slapping a fan who asked him to take a selfie with him while on set. The actor has now shared his side of the narrative on ANI.

While explaining the slap, he explained how slapping a boy was, in fact, part of a scene meant to be in his next film. The actor accidentally mistook the fan for someone from the crew who was actually supposed to be in the shot. Unfortunately for Nana Patekar, he only later realised that he was a real fan.

Translating from the original video in which Nana Patekar conversed in Hindi, "Namaskar. A video is going viral where I hit a boy. There is a sequence in the film where a boy comes from behind and says, ‘Ae budhau, topi bechni hai (hey old man, do you want to sell your hat)?' and I catch him, smack him, and ask him to behave properly, and he runs away.”

"Though this sequence is a part of our film, we had one rehearsal. We were scheduled to have a second rehearsal. The director told me to begin. We were about to begin when the boy in the video came in. I didn't know who he was, I thought he was one of our crew so I slapped him as per the scene and I told him to leave. Later, I came to know that he was not a part of the crew. So, I was going to call him back but he ran away. Maybe his friend shot the video. I have never said no to anybody for a photo. I don't do this...This happened by mistake... If there is some misunderstanding, please forgive me... I will never do anything like this..." Nana Patekar added

Nana Patekar expressed how he wanted to apologise to the boy, but he ran away before they realised and was then nowhere to be found.

Hours after the news went viral, the director of Journey, Anil Sharma, reacted to the viral video and clarified that Nana didn't slap a fan. Anil revealed in a statement to Aaj Tak that Nana was shooting for Journey and the slap was a part of the shot he was delivering when the video was recorded. The director said, "I have just come to know about this news. I was watching the same video just now. Nana has not hit anyone, rather that is a shot from my film. We were filming it on the road in the middle of Banaras, where a boy who comes near Nana has to be hit on the head. Shooting was going on and Nana also hit him."
