On Saturday, Jacqueline Fernandez did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in New Delhi in the R2s 00-crore extortion case, involving conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The actor was to depose before the investigating agency on Friday, but missed it due to professional commitments. She was summoned on Saturday but failed to show up again. Fernandez is in Ooty shooting with Akshay Kumar for Abhishek Sharma’s mythological Ram Setu. Sharing a picture on Instagram, she wrote, “Feels great to be back on the sets with team Ram Setu in my favourite Ooty.” Last week, Fernandez was in Dubai for a brand endorsement. She also did a photoshoot with Italian actor Michele Morrone.

On Saturday, Hema Malini clocked 73 years. “Stay blessed, happy and healthy. Always by your side through thick and thin,” wrote daughter Esha Deol.

Writer-director Pankaj Dubey’s short film, Maratha Mandir Cinema, stars writer-lyricist Swanand Kirkire, Sarika and Tanvi Sanvai. “It’s a tribute to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and how the film impacted commercial sex workers in the vicinity of the theatre, especially the dialogue, ‘Jaa Simran jaa, jee le apni zindagi,’” says Kirkire. Adds Dubey, “It’s a story of hope, love and liberation. It is the perfect time to release the film as post the pandemic, stories with positive themes will be well- received by the audience.”

Farewell, Farrukh Jaffar

Ayushmann Khurrana paid tribute to Gulabo Sitabo (2020) co-actor Farrukh Jaffar, who passed away on Friday in Lucknow. She was 88. Jaffar was hospitalised earlier this month due to breathlessness. “Begum gayin... rest in peace,” he posted. The veteran actor played Amitabh Bachchan’s wife, Fatima Begum, in Shoojit Sircar’s directorial venture.  Jaffar began as an announcer on Vividh Bharti in 1963 and turned actor with Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan (1981), in which she played Rekha’s mother. She was also part of Swades (2004), Peepli [Live] (2010) and Sultan (2016).  Her last rites were performed on Saturday.

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary on Saturday. Bebo shared a throwback picture to mark the occasion. “Once upon a time in Greece... there was a bowl of soup and us and it changed my life. Happy anniversary to the most handsome man in the world,” she wrote. Sparks flew between Bebo and Saif when they were shooting for Tashan (2008).

Bidding adieu

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, producer Rajan Shahi hosted a farewell bash for Mohsin Khan and Shivangi Joshi, who bid adieu to the show after five years. Their characters, Kartik and Naira, were well appreciated by the audience. As the show takes a generation leap, they did not want to play parents of grown-up children.

Raut makes it special for Kriti

Kriti Sanon has completed the shoot of Adipurush. “I can’t believe this journey has come to an end so soon. My heart sinks as I let go of this super special character, Janaki, that I’m extremely proud to have played. I can’t wait for the world to see it. A film I’ll always be proud of,” she said. Om Raut’s mythological stars Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan. Raut said that he was keen to collaborate with Sanon soon for another project.
