Flashback Friday: When Ananya Panday opened up about facing casual sexism in Bollywood

Ananya Panday will be seen next in Dream Girl 2 opposite Ayushmann Khurrana

Ever since Ananya Panday made her debut in Bollywood, the actress has been subject to criticism from multiple quarters. From facing negativity on social media to being dragged into nepotism debates, the actress has seen it all in the first few years of her career. In an interview last year, Ananya also spoke about dealing with casual sexism in the film industry.

Actresses are supposed to look a certain way in Bollywood and Ananya said that her lean figure has often invited unsolicited advice from many. "It's almost so casual, you sometimes catch it and realise 'Oh God, that was so sexist!' Mostly people's opinions about my body, and I'm sure lot of other girls', is sexist. When I started working, people would come up and say, 'fix this and fix that. Get a boob job, change things about your face. Put on a little more weight, fill up a little'," she said on The Ranveer Show podcast.

Ananya confessed it feels hurtful when people talk like that. "Is that what people actually care about? Is that what I am reduced to? Is nothing else about me more important than my waist size or chest size. I feel the worst thing you can do to someone is make them feel bad about their body. Bodies are supposed to be different. Everyone is supposed to look different. That's what makes everyone unique and beautiful... It's very casual, the sexism," she added.

When asked about traits in her personality that people don't know about, Ananya said, "People think I talk in a certain way, I am a 'la-la land' type of person. But that's just a sie of my personality that I get very excited in front of the camera. I am very friendly and excited, and I have no qualms about being like that because I want the otehr person to be comfortable. Because I see these opportunities to portray my fun side. But I do have a side where I like to belive that I'm growing both in terms of my intelligence and curiosity, the things I read and watch. I wish people give me some benefit of the doubt."
