Box Office: Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 vs Akshay Kumar's OMG 2, take a look at their collections on the second day of release

One of the biggest box office clashes of the year was between Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 and Sunny Deol's Gadar 2. Sequels of successful franchises, they opened accounts at the cash counter on August 11. While Gadar 2 got benefitted due to the popularity of its prequel and pre-release buzz, OMG 2 made the right amount of noise for its subject.

After taking a double-digit start at the box office, Gadar 2 and OMG 2 saw further growth on the first Saturday. The Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel headlined film raked in Rs 43.08 crores net. By making Rs. 83.18 crores in just two days, the Anil Sharma directorial is in the race to be the second-fastest Rs. 100 crores club film. Gadar 2's first-day collection was Rs. 40.10 crores net.
On the other hand, OMG 2 saw a good jump due to positive word of mouth. The Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam courtroom drama minted Rs. 15.30 crores on day 2. The Amit Rai directorial opened its account at the box office with Rs. 10.26 crores.
Gadar 2, also starring Utkarsh Sharma and Simratt Kaur Randhawa, is a tale orbiting around the relations between India and Pakistan. Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and his wife Sakeena (Ameesha Patel) have a son named Jeetey (Utkarsh Sharma). The entire drama begins when their son crosses the border and reaches Pakistan. The prequel of Gadar released in 2001. Before the sequel, the makers had re-released Gadar in theatres earlier this year.
OMG 2 revolves around the importance of sex education. Akshay plays the messenger of Lord Shiva who arrives on earth to guide Mahadev's devotee Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi). Kanti decides to fight a case against his son's school. He faces Kamini (Yami Gautam) in court and highlights the need and importance of including sex education in the school's curriculum. The prequel of OMG 2 came in in 2012. It starred Akshay with Paresh Rawal.
